Have you ever been to an Ashland Symphony Orchestra Concert? Have you been to one lately? The Ashland Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its 55th season this year!
Ashland, Ohio is the smallest community in the United States to have a professional orchestra! It is often called “The Jewel of Ashland County.”
Live music compares to nothing else, especially when it’s a symphony! You can feel the music around you, watch the musicians and the conductor interacting with each other, and share the experience with fellow audience members.
You might get goosebumps, your imagination may get carried away on a journey, you may experience a range of emotions, and you might just love watching people with a lot of skill do what they do best in playing their instruments for you!
Each concert tends to have a theme and there is a pre-concert talk before each performance so you can find out a little more about what you’ll be listening to.You’ll have a chance to hear music that is familiar and has endured the test of time, as well as music by modern composers and composers who are lesser known.
There are around 45-60 musicians on the stage depending on the music being performed, led by Grammy-winning conductor, Mike Repper. All of the musicians in the orchestra have spent years learning their craft and are able to bring great quality music to the community. Some are local, and many drive from various places, such as Akron, Kent, Cleveland, and Columbus.
Mike Repper is in his third season with the orchestra and has continued to share his passion and expertise with the musicians, audience members, and young people alike! Through the ASO Fan Club, (high school and college students), and Fan Club Jr. (4th – 8th grade), students have the opportunity to get hands-on involvement with the symphony. They sometimes sit in on rehearsals or play alongside the professional musicians, as well as meet with the conductor for pizza on occasion!
Each spring the ASO performs a school day concert for area 3rd graders, and performs a free Young People’s concert for families on the weekend. For regular concerts child and student tickets are available for free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
The first concert of the season is September 14th! Season tickets are available for all 6 concerts or a sampler package for 3 concerts. Both packages are a great way to save on ticket prices. You can also get a discount at area restaurants by showing your ticket before or after the concert! (See website for details).
